Peter Madsen has been facinated with adventures under the sea since his childhood and in 2001 he designed the midget submarine “Freya”. Peters dream was as much to be under water, as it was to experiment and build a fantastic underwatership. During the summer of 2001, the small submarine took shape and by Spring 2002, Mr. Madsen became the first private submarine captain in his country as he took command of Freya during her fist test dive.
In the following years Mr. Madsen has dived more than a thousand times with Freya, while also having found the time to design and build two larger and more advanced submarines “Kraka” and finally “Nautilus”. Hundreds of people have sailed with the three submarines and enjoyed the magic experience of gliding under the waves. His last submarine is still the world longest amateur build submarine, and during 2006 - 2010 it was also used as his private home.
Inspiration in a lecture Peter Madsens story is about pursuing a childhood dream against all odds. It is about starting out, with scarse resources, but a lot of healthy ideas and suceeding with them. Furthermore it is about cutting corners to an extreme extent in order to make something happen that normally would seem completely impossible. In other words “It is about extreme innovation, visions and dynamics, that makes realizing a dream possible”.
Peter Madsen will take us from our everyday lives, deep into his dream, underwater, and ultimately into space. By 2010, Mr. Madsens submarine set out on a historic mission to transport a two tonne ninemeter space rocket, designed and build in the same hanger as the submarine, out to sea.
Because the next goal of Peters team is literally out of this world -> to fly into space.
During the lecture, Peter Madsen will tell about his vision, the many challenges and alternative solutions that arise, when amateurs with a minimum of resources try to build a submarine and subsequently a space rocket.
